Pernahkah Tuan dan Puan mendengar jurnalisme kebelet? Kalau tidak salah istilah ini diperkenalkan Yayan Sopian, seorang penyair. Sebuah potret laporan jurnalistik yang serba tergesa-gesa.
Secara gamblang Yayan mengatakan, bekerja di media massa, jurnalis tentu saja harus bekerja cepat. Informasi yang didapat, mungkin benar-benar sedang ditunggu banyak orang. Lagi pula, semakin hari semakin banyak orang berlagak, “Saya membutuhkan pasokan informasi yang cepat untuk setiap keputusan saya”.
Tapi itu tidak bisa dijadikan alasan untuk mempraktikan jurnalisme kebelet. Segala urusan akan menjadi repot dalam situasi kebelet. Ketika kebelet, kita akan susah berpikir jernih. Boro-boro berpikir jernih: yang terasa cuma jantung berdebar-debar dan keringat ngocor dari setiap pangkal rambut. Kalau perlu, tabrak sana tabrak sini, hindari ini hindari itu, abaikan ini abaikan itu. Yang penting, segera memenuhi hajat.
Dalam situasi kebelet, air liur jurnalis mungkin menetes dari tepi bibir dan turun melewati dagu seketika mendengar orang mengumbar klaim yang menghebohkan. Selalu ada kemungkinan yang cukup besar, jurnalis akan menelan bulat-bulat klaim-klaim yang menghebohkan. Apalagi kebanyalan klaim yang meghebohkan cenderung punya ‘nilai berita’ bukan?
Tapi, seperti yang diajarkan dalam materi-materi dasar jurnalistik, nilai berita bukanlah satu-satunya ukuran yang bisa dipakai untuk menentukan sebuah klaim yang mengandung ‘nilai berita’. Apakah semua klaim mengandung nilai berita?
Membuat klaim adalah watak sosial manusia. Siapapun boleh membuat klaim semaunya sendiri. Yang harus diingat, satu institusi sosial yang bertanggungjawab untuk meyelamatkan masyarakat dari berbagai klaim ngawur adalah pers.
Tanggungjawab sosial itu akan susah dipenuhi jika mempraktikan jurnalisme kebelet. Apalagi jurnalisnya tergolong orang yang tidak punya rasa percaya diri karena kurang bergaul. Dengan gaya kebelet dan tidak punya rasa kepercayaan diri, jurnalis cenderung kehilangan daya kritisnya. Setidaknya, menjadi lupa atau tak punya waktu untuk bersikap kritis.
Wartawan malas dan malu bersikap kritis pada seseorang yang dianggap ahli, pakar, atau jagoan, bahkan lupa si narasumber mendapatkan embel-embel ahli, pakar, atau jagoan itu dari pers itu sendiri.
Pers mengesampingkan detil dari klaim. Pers seolah lupa seorang pembual biasanya menghindari detil. Bahkan pers tidak menyapa Pak Yahoo! atau Oom Google untuk sekedar melakukan riset kecil atas klaim yang didengar. Tidak peduli pada kompetensi narasumber dan lebih terfokus pada bunyi klaim yang menghebohkan.
Jika pers tetap ngotot menjalankan jurnalisme kebelet, media hanya akan menyumbangkan kegaduhan-kegaduhan yang menyebalkan dan menghabiskan energi waras secara mubazir.
Sudah berapa banyak berita yang kami tunda pemuatannya lantaran berita itu terjebak jurnalisme kebelet. Karena prinsip berita sebagai fakta, yaitu benar-benar suatu kejadian, kami ingin mengungkapkan apa adanya, bukan bualan apalagi pernyataan omong kosong belaka. (mbb)
